Quds Paints Putty Guide: How to Choose the Right Putty for Every Surface?

The quality of the final paint finish starts with proper surface preparation, not only with the final coat of paint. Different walls and surfaces may contain cracks, pits, or concrete defects, and may also require leveling and smoothing before applying paint.

This is where the importance of putties and fillers comes in. They help prepare surfaces and treat various defects before reaching the final finishing stage.

However, choosing the right putty does not depend on the product name alone. Putty applications vary depending on the type of surface, the nature of the problem that needs to be repaired, and the appropriate application method.

Quds Paints Manufacturing Company offers a complete range of putties and fillers designed to meet different requirements for preparing interior and exterior surfaces, treating cracks, filling gypsum board joints, and repairing concrete defects.

In this guide, we explore the different types of Quds Paints putties and the differences between them, in addition to the suitable applications for each product and the correct application method.

First: Quds Paints Putties

Putties are used in a wide range of surface preparation applications, such as leveling and smoothing, crack treatment, and filling joints and surface defects.

The types of putties vary according to the nature of the surface and the purpose of their use:

1️⃣ QP Silky Coat: Putty for leveling and smoothing interior surfaces

When preparing new or old interior walls and surfaces for painting, achieving a level and smooth surface is an essential step toward obtaining a uniform final finish.

QP Silky Coat is a dedicated solution for leveling and smoothing interior surfaces. It is a water-based putty based on Vinyl Acetate Copolymer and is used on new and old interior surfaces.

Key Properties of QP Silky Coat

The product offers a range of properties that help achieve a good finish and proper surface preparation, including:

✅ Flexible and filling properties.

✅ High permeability.

✅ High adhesion and interlocking strength.

✅ Easy to sand.

✅ Free from unpleasant odors.

✅ Contains no lead or mercury.

✅ Environmentally friendly.

✅ Non-toxic and non-flammable.

How to Use QP Silky Coat

Before applying the putty, the surface must be properly prepared to ensure the best possible result.

1. Clean and sand the surface to remove loose particles, dust, oils, and any other impurities.

2. Make sure the surface is completely dry before use.

3. If cracks or pits are present, they must first be treated using QP Crack.

4. It is recommended to prime the surface using diluted QP Bond at a ratio of 1 to 5 with water, to help stabilize the surface and achieve higher adhesion strength.

5. Apply two or three coats of QP Silky Coat using a trowel or putty knife, depending on the required thickness.

6. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat.

Important Notes:

⚠️ Use the putty as supplied without adding any liquids.

⚠️ Application is not recommended when the temperature is below 5°C.

2️⃣ QP Filler: Putty for filling gypsum board joints

Gypsum board sheets require special treatment of the joints between them before applying the final paint, in order to prevent lines or cracks from appearing at the points where the sheets meet.

QP Filler is a water-based acrylic putty based on Styrene Acrylic Copolymer, specifically designed for skim coating and filling interior gypsum board joints.

Properties of QP Filler

QP Filler offers the following properties:

✅ Flexible and filling properties.

✅ High adhesion and interlocking strength.

✅ Free from unpleasant odors.

✅ Contains no lead or mercury.

✅ Environmentally friendly.

✅ Non-toxic and non-flammable.

How to Use QP Filler

Gypsum board joints are prepared according to the following steps:

1. Clean the surface and make sure it is dry before starting.

2. Apply a layer of Joint Filler inside the joint using a trowel, then allow it to dry.

3. After the layer has dried, place fiberglass mesh over the joint.

4. Apply another layer of Joint Filler to completely fill the joint.

5. Sand the excess material above the surface to achieve a uniform level.

6. Apply a primer emulsion coat.

7. Apply two coats of QP Silky Coat to obtain a smooth surface.

8. Apply two coats of emulsion for the final finish.

⚠️ Note: Use the putty as supplied, and do not mix it with any liquid.

Crack treatment differs from surface leveling, as cracks, fissures, and pits require a dedicated material for filling and treating them before continuing with painting work.

QP Crack is a water-based acrylic putty designed to treat various problems involving cracks, fissures, hairline cracks, and pits. It can be used on interior and exterior surfaces.

Properties of QP Crack

The product offers the following properties:

How to Use QP Crack

To achieve the best result when treating cracks, follow these steps:

1. Sand the surface thoroughly to remove loose particles, dust, oils, and other impurities.

2. Make sure the surface is dry before application.

3. Use a trowel to fill the cracks with the putty.

4. Wait for two hours before applying the second coat, allowing the material to penetrate deep into the cracks.

5. Continue filling the crack until it becomes level with the wall surface.

6. Thoroughly sand any excess material above the surface after finishing.

Important Notes:

⚠️ It is preferable to remove excess material before it dries completely, as removal becomes more difficult after drying due to the strength of the material.

⚠️ Use the putty as supplied, and do not mix it with any liquid.
